Leaf – Intelligent Mobility

Nissan Intelligent Mobility will transform your life and the life of your Nissan LEAF.

It’s a long list of features beyond imagination, please consult eMotion / Mobility Alliance for demonstrations and test drives to experience these extra ordinary features, which not only you will enjoy through usage, and protects you and your EV.

ProPILOT

The car will watch over you and support your driving, making long drives at high speeds more enjoyable.

Highway same-lane automatic driving technology "ProPILOT"

Monotonous “traffic jam driving” and long “cruising driving” on the highway.
The car supports accelerator, brake, and steering operations in the two major scenes where you feel burdened on the highway.
It reduces the burden on the driver during high-speed driving.
In addition, the optimization of the control brings it closer to the feeling of the driver.

Keep distance between vehicles

By monitoring the car in front, the Nissan LEAF controls the accelerator and brakes to help maintain a safe distance from the car in front.

Keep in the center of the lane

Monitor the white line and Nissan Leaf controls the steering. It helps to keep you in the center of the driving lane on curves as well as on straight roads.

Precautions for ProPILOT
■ Use ProPILOT on highways and motorways. ProPILOT is a system for assisting the driver’s driving operation, not an automated driving system. Drivers are responsible for driving safely.
■ It is not intended to avoid the dangers of inattentive forward driving such as distracted driving or distracted driving, or poor visibility such as rain or fog. Always try to drive safely by operating the accelerator, brake, and steering wheel according to the distance to the vehicle ahead, position in the lane, and surrounding conditions.
■ There is a limit to the capacity of the system, so please do not rely solely on the system for driving, and always drive safely.
■ Be sure to read the instruction manual before use, as it describes how to operate the ProPILOT and important precautions

e-Pedal

Just by operating the accelerator pedal, you can drive more freely.

Imagine having the option to drive with just the e-Pedal accelerator pedal. If you want to accelerate instantly, step on it strongly, and if you loosen it, it will decelerate reliably as if you stepped on the brake pedal, and even stop. Not only can you enjoy easy driving in the city where you repeat stop-and-go, but you can also enjoy sporty driving with well-balanced acceleration and deceleration on winding roads.

From start to acceleration/deceleration to stop, simply operate the accelerator pedal*1 to adjust the speed.

START – ACCELERATION/DECELERATION – STOP *², JUST BY OPERATING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL*¹ SPEED ADJUSTMENT.

You can drive comfortably by reducing the frequency of switching between the accelerator and brake pedals in traffic jams and traffic lights that occur frequently in city driving. When the accelerator pedal is released, the e-Pedal generates a deceleration sensation (up to 0.2G) equivalent to that of normal braking*¹. Easy driving with only the accelerator pedal, such as adjusting the distance to the vehicle in front, decelerating, and stopping at traffic lights or on slopes.

■ Starting and Accelerating: Excellent response and feeling of acceleration unique to an EV.
■ Deceleration: A feeling of deceleration (up to 0.2G) equivalent to that of stepping on the brake pedal*¹. Smooth deceleration on slopes thanks to precise motor control.
■ Stopping: After stopping, the hydraulic brake is automatically applied to maintain the stopped state. Can be stopped and held up to about 30% gradient on both uphill and downhill.
■ Brake lamp: Lights up when decelerating*³ and when stopping, just like a normal car.

*1 Deceleration is stronger than B range when the e-Pedal is OFF. If you need more deceleration, use the brake pedal.
*2 The e-Pedal does not have a creep function. Please note that the e-Pedal installed in the Leaf has a different function from the e-Pedal Step installed in other Nissan vehicles.
*3 When deceleration above a certain level occurs.

Auto Parking

There is a surprise that you can park smoothly with a simple operation at your fingertips.

"ProPilot Parking"

Assist the driver until the parking is completed with just 3 steps.
Steering, accelerator, brake, shift, and even parking brake are all controlled.
Furthermore, the control has been optimized to bring it closer to the feeling of the driver.
In various parking spaces such as parallel parking on the side of the road, parallel parking in a shopping mall, parking in a garage, etc., it operates quickly and smoothly as if the car itself has intelligence. Parking habits will change.

Precautions for ProPILOT parking
■ ProPILOT parking is a system to assist the driver in parking, and the driver is responsible for safe driving. As with normal parking, check the surroundings directly through the mirrors and visually, and if you are likely to collide with other vehicles, obstacles, people, etc., step on the brakes to stop the vehicle. Please give me.
■ Depending on the situation, such as surrounding obstacles, it may not be possible to assist until the parking is completed.
■ Depending on the number of passengers, load capacity, air pressure, and other vehicle conditions, as well as road surface conditions such as slopes, the parking slot may not be recognized correctly, and the actual parking position may deviate from the target parking slot.
■ Depending on the surrounding environment such as the weather and the condition of the parking lot, it may not be possible to automatically detect the parking lot. Even if the parking frame cannot be detected automatically, it can be set manually.
■ Be sure to read the instruction manual before use, as it describes how to operate the ProPILOT parking and important precautions.

Forward Driving Assistance

During normal driving, sensors and cameras monitor the surroundings of the car. It supports the driver so that they can drive with peace of mind at all times, and even when the situation is likely to become dangerous, the car instantly judges and assists in avoiding danger.

  • Intelligent emergency braking
  • Cruise control
  • Intelligent LI/LDW
  • High beam assist

The front camera detects vehicles and pedestrians ahead. When the possibility of a collision increases, a warning display on the meter display and a buzzer alert the driver, prompting the driver to take evasive action. In the unlikely event that the driver is unable to decelerate safely, the system supports collision avoidance maneuvers using the brakes or reduces damage and injury in the event of a collision.

*Functionality is limited. Please read the manual for details.

360-degree field of view

A sense of security is brought by a 360-degree field of view.

The driver’s visual confirmation of safety is the basis of driving. The Nissan LEAF is equipped with an intelligent around-view monitor (with a moving object detection function) that provides images as if looking down from the sky, and an intelligent rearview mirror that provides a clear rear view. It helps the driver to check the surroundings of the vehicle, which is difficult for the driver to see.

side view

The screen can be switched between the top view, side view, and rear view. In addition, the moving object detection function detects moving objects such as people walking around the vehicle, and notifies the driver with an indication on the display and a buzzer.

Advance Driving Support

● High Beam Assist
Detects the headlights of oncoming vehicles and automatically switches between high beam and low beam.

●Electric retractable remote-controlled colored door mirrors with side turn lamps (with door lock interlocking retraction function)
LED side turn lamps are used to improve visibility from vehicles in front and on the side.

● Rear view monitor (color, with vehicle width/distance/estimated course line display function) [Grade setting]
When the electric shift is set to “R”, the rear of the vehicle is automatically displayed in color on the monitor.

● Front & Back Sonar
When the vehicle approaches an obstacle while moving forward or backward, such as parking, an alarm is issued to warn the driver.

● Sign detection function (no entry)
The front camera detects a no-entry sign in front of the vehicle. If the vehicle is about to enter a road that is off-limits, a warning will be displayed on the meter display and a buzzer will alert the driver.

● Vehicle approach warning device
In order to notify pedestrians of the approach of an EV that runs extremely quietly, select the D range from a stationary state, and when the brake is released, a warning sound will be played to alert pedestrians.
*It fades out when the vehicle speed exceeds 30km/h (within 25km/h when decelerating). In addition, when reversing, a notification sound will flow from the moment you enter the R range.

Avoidance operation support

Assists in avoidance maneuvers when the vehicle is likely to become dangerous while driving.

● VDC (vehicle dynamics control [including TCS function])
Various sensors detect the driver’s driving operation and vehicle speed and automatically control brake pressure and motor output. It reduces skidding that occurs when avoiding slippery roads, cornering, and obstacles, improves vehicle stability and enhances the sense of security when driving.
*VDC is only a system that supports the operation of the driver. Therefore, as with vehicles not equipped with VDC, please refrain from speeding and drive safely by operating early.

VDC1

When the sensor detects skidding of the front and rear wheels, it controls the braking force and motor output of each wheel to improve the stability of the vehicle.

VDC2

Vehicles without VDC may skid depending on the steering wheel operation.

● ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) / EBD (Electronic Control Braking Force Distribution System) + Brake
Assist Combined with ABS (anti-lock braking system) and brake assist, it enhances the ability to avoid danger in the event of an emergency.

Improved Protection

In preparation for an emergency collision, the ability to protect the occupants is enhanced.

● High-strength safety body (zone body) + pedestrian injury mitigation body
The zone body, which consists of a high-strength cabin and a shock-absorbing body, has been further evolved. Adopts a compatible zone body that improves the protection performance of the own vehicle and reduces damage to the other vehicle. The shock-absorbing body efficiently absorbs energy in the event of a collision. A strong cabin (high-strength cabin) has been realized by the frame structure using high-strength materials. In addition, a pedestrian injury mitigation body has been adopted that enhances the energy absorption of the bonnet and other parts and reduces the impact on the head and legs in the event of a collision with a pedestrian.

● SRS airbags (front seats)
● SRS side airbags (front seats)
● SRS curtain airbags
● 3-point seat belts with ELR (all seats)

● Double pre-tensioner seat belt with 2-stage load limiter <driver’s seat>
● Pre-tensioner seat belt with 2-stage load limiter <passenger seat>
● Pre-tensioner seat belt with load limiter <left and right rear seats>

SRS airbag system

*SRS airbags (front seats) are devices that assist the seatbelts in the event of a frontal collision to mitigate the impact on the occupants, so please be sure to wear your seatbelts. SRS airbags (front seats), SRS side airbags (front seats) and SRS curtain airbags may not operate depending on the collision conditions. There are other important warnings and precautions such as “Do not install a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat in vehicles with airbags.” Please read the instruction manual for details. SRS: Supplemental Restraint System

Precisely because it is a car that has never existed before, we ensure greater safety than ever before. Sufficient safety measures have been implemented so that the EV can be used with peace of mind at all times.

● A body structure that protects the battery and motor, as well as the rider.
In addition to the body structure that protects the lithium-ion battery, the Nissan LEAF adopts an insulation structure for high-voltage parts such as the battery and motor. Furthermore, in the unlikely event of a collision, we have adopted a structure that shuts off the high voltage system. In addition, the lithium-ion battery controller keeps track of the battery status and prevents overvoltage, overdischarge, and overheating, which can lead to significant capacity drops and failures.

● The Nissan LEAF is tested in various operating environments.
Since the Nissan LEAF is a vehicle that runs on various roads around the world, we conduct thorough driving tests assuming a variety of usage environments. For example, we conducted start-up and running tests in cold regions with temperatures below freezing, and tests that simulated driving on flooded roads. In addition, the safety of the battery placed under the floor was verified in a road bump test. Furthermore, we conducted a test assuming high-pressure washing during car washing to ensure reliable safety.

Intelligent Room Mirror

Intelligent room mirror

The rear view of the rearview mirror tends to be difficult to see due to the reflection of the rear seat occupants, headrests, and large cargo in the luggage compartment.
The intelligent rearview mirror projects the image of the camera behind the vehicle onto the mirror surface.
Regardless of the conditions inside the car or the weather, and by increasing the sensitivity of the camera at night, a clear rear view can be obtained at any time.

Intelligent Auto Light System

(Front wiper interlocking, twilight sensing “Omoiyari Light” function included)

Compared to the conventional auto light system function, the headlights automatically turn on when the windshield wipers are used at dusk when the surroundings start to get dark and in rainy weather. Equipped with a “compassionate light” function, which is expected to reduce accidents by making your vehicle stand out at dusk or in the rain and alerting pedestrians and drivers around you.

Rear-side driving assistance

The car senses the danger approaching behind the driver that the driver does not notice.

High-precision sensors and cameras monitor surrounding vehicles and pedestrians that are difficult for the driver to see when parking or driving. We support drivers so that they can drive with peace of mind at all times.
